Corporate Services for Neurodiversity

After 7 years experience in financial services…

I know a thing or two about the corporate world, and one thing that has not yet reached its full potential is the understanding and utilisation of amazing neurodivergent brains in the workplace.

Many a time have I been contacted by people who say: “We want to hire more people who are neurodivergent, how can we increase our neurodivergent applicants?” especially in the world of finance and tech. My response?

“You already have people who are neurodivergent in your companies and recruitment process, probably your leadership team as well. You just don’t know it. Why? Because they don’t feel safe enough to tell you”

Why do they not feel safe? Because you’re not modelling that your workplace is a safe one to be neurodivergent in.

How do we change that? By making key changes to demonstrate that you are a neurodivergent-friendly employer.

Leigh is open to discussing bespoke requirements in addition to the below offering. Get in touch to discuss.

Quick check: Are you using the term neurodiverse properly?

Many companies use the term “neurodiverse” because it goes nicely with diversity which of course is something that we value in our corporations. However, if you are using “neurodiverse” to refer specifically to individuals with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Tourette’s Syndrome and other forms of neurodivergence, then you’re actually using the term incorrectly.

Neurodiversity is a collective property of our brains. We are all neurodiverse because our brains all work in unique ways. Our different brains all make up neurodiversity. The term you are looking for instead is “neurodivergent”, those of us who think differently to the majority of the population.

Getting the terminology right will make a big different to your neurodivergent employees in feeling recognised and listened to and that you’re a company that cares.
